Manchester City’s Gareth Barry is among the players Arsenal could turn to if their bid for Yohan Cabaye fails, reports The Times.
The Gunners are expected to lodge a fresh £13.5m bid for Newcastle’s Cabaye on Tuesday or Wednesday after the Toon rejected their opening £11m offer.
The midfielder wants to join the North London outfit but Arsenal have drawn up a list of alternatives if they cannot agree a fee with Newcastle.
These include Gareth Barry of Man City and Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin, as well as Joshua
Guilavogui of Saint-Etienne.
Barry, 32, would be the cheapest of the trio and is considered surplus to requirements at the Etihad Stadium.
The former Aston Villa and England star joined City in 2009 and was instrumental under former boss Roberto Mancini, helping the club to a maiden Premier League title in 2011/12.
But the arrival of £34m new boy Fernandinho has forced Barry further down the pecking order at Eastlands and the pass-master is likely to leave the club before the transfer deadline if City receive an acceptable offer.
