Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, urged the Christian faithful to pray fervently and fast for Nigeria as the country approaches 2015, the election year.
The former president, described Nigeria as “God’s project whose existence is by His making.”
He also emphasised that it is only God that appoints leaders for a country notwithstanding the political scheming and campaign promises.
Obasanjo stated this while playing host to the National President of the Pentecostal Federation of Nigeria, PFN, Reverend Felix Omobude at his Hilltop mansion in Abeokuta,
the Ogun State capital during the PFN two day working visit to the state.
He, however, submitted that with the current political situations in Nigeria today, God will see the country through.
“I always see myself as an incurable optimist about this country. If there is anything that I would ask of you, it is that you should never stop fasting and praying for Nigeria.
“My short span of life has seen a few unexpected things in this country when we thought that the end would just happen, but God made us to scale through.
“I personally never thought we would have a leader like late Sanni Abacha in this country. I was a victim but God saw us through that situation.
“There is no situation we see or worry about that God will not see us through. That is my belief and that is what gives me confidence. It gives me courage; it gives me the ability to work for the country’s unity.
“No matter what is happening, all will be well. And those of you who believe all will be well for Nigeria should continue to shout Hallelujah. God has done it for us.”
In his remarks, PFN’s president, Reverend Omobude described Obasanjo as a special treasure to Nigeria.
He said the former President would continue to be relevant in every affair of the country.
Omobude, however, assured that the PFN would not fail in its calling to pray for the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria, stressing that it is part of the pastoral duties to pray for the country’s leaders and its peace.
