Sagna: Affair rumours will not harm Giroud's form

Bacary Sagna is confident recent allegations regarding Oliver Giroud's private life will not affect his form for Arsenal.

A Sunday newspaper published pictures of Giroud at Arsenal's team hotel ahead of their Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on February 2, and claimed he had been having an affair with model Celia Kay.

Giroud subsequently issued a public apology to his wife, team-mates and Arsene Wenger -

with the manager confirming the matter will be dealt with "internally" - but later insisted that the apology was not an admission of adultery.

The France international hasn't started in Arsenal's last two matches, an FA Cup clash with Liverpool and their Champions League last 16 meeting with Bayern Munich, but Sagna says his team-mate is keen to put the incident behind him.

"Of course, he acknowledged his mistakes," Sagna told RMC. "He is part of the team, he is among us.

"We know it is difficult for him at this time. He continues to work, he works more in training. It's clear that this isn't evident at the moment. He wants to do well and get back to his best.

"I do not think this story has rattled him. He wants to do well and show everyone that, despite the mistake he made, he is ready to fight to help the team and the France national team, too."
