PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, arrived the Port Harcourt International Airport, at 2pm. He was received by Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State; Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State; Martins Elechi of Ebony State and several other political leaders and traditional rulers in the South-South.
The President was driven straight to Okrika, home town of his wife, Dame Patience, in
company of Governors Amaechi and Dickson, where he and the First Lady were confered with chieftaincy titles by King E.D.I Obudibo, Ikwo V of Ogoloma.
Jonathan was conferred with Se lolia I of Wakirike Bese while the the First Lady bagged Se Nyengibo 1 of Wakirike Bese.
The community was agog as the people were in celebration mood. Masquerades were seen on display on some streets in the town. Vanguard gathered that ahead of the funeral, today, of the mother of Dame Patience, Madam Charity Oba, cows and bags of rice had been distributed to the various war canoe houses in the town. Community sources, told Vanguard that it was done to ensure the funeral venue was not overcrowded.
The various compounds were also given money to make provision for canopies and other things to spice up the merriment.
“We were told to celebrate in our various compounds, so that the venue of the funeral is not congested. They gave the various war canoe houses cows, rice and cash to take care of themselves. You can see that the community is in a celebration mood,” one of the community folks told Vanguard.
There were about three gun boats on the Okrika river to ensure security of lives of those travelling to the funeral by boat. Free boats were available to convey people of the riverine areas to the funeral. Also at the jetty in Okrika, some shuttle buses were on ground to convey people to the venue of the event.
