Muslims in Kwara on Monday joined their counterparts all over the world to celebrate the 1435 AH new Islamic Calendar.
The Emir of IIorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, was among the dignitaries who attended an event for the celebration.
In his message, Gov. AbdulFatah Ahmed of Kwara, who was represented by the Secretary to
the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold, urged Muslims to avoid negative tendencies.
He called on Muslims to continue to uphold the tenets of the religion and maintain peace and unity as enshrined in the Hijrah (migration) embarked upon by Prophet Muhammad.
Two Islamic scholars, Sheikh Yahya Muritala and Ustaz AbdulMumeen Ayara, also urged Muslims to love one another and shun acts capable of retarding the progress of the country.
Meanwhile, all private Islamic schools in the state observed Monday as public holiday to mark the Islamic new year. (NAN).
