Residents of PDP Road in the Yenizue-Gene suburb of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, were, yesterday, thrown into panic following a bomb scare.
The incident occurred at about 1.30pm, close to an estate housing air force personnel when a man reportedly dropped two bags suspected to be laden with explosives.
Though the identity of the suspect could not be ascertained, his movement was said to have
arouse the suspicion of some vigilant residents and air force personnel who accosted him.
The unidentified man, when questioned, abandoned the two bags and took to his heels.
This led to panic along the road as people fled the area while motorists were barred from using the road until men of the police anti-bomb squad were called in to ascertain the content.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hilary Opara, said he dispatched the anti-bomb squad of his command to investigate the bags.
He said the operatives opened the bags and discovered they contained electric wire.
